  47. NOTE:  The file BWCC.DLL was supplied by Borland inc.  Since
  48. I used some of Borlands custom controlsin this program, it
  49. is neccessary to include this file.  It can be placed either
  50. in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, or the directory you are
  51. running this program from.

  58.                  Installation Instructions:
  59.  
  60. 1.  Go to windows file manager and create a directory.  A
  61. good name for the directory might be Spell, or Quiz, but it
  62. is completely your choice.
  63.  
  64. 2.  Copy all files on the distribution disk to the directory
  65. you just created.
  66.  
  67. 3.  Exit Windows File Manager
  68.  
  69. 4.  From the windows program manger select new, you will be
  70. asked if you want to create a new program item or a group.
  71. Select group, and name it an appropriate name.
  72.  
  73. 5.  With that group you just created still open, select new
  74. from the Windows program manager again.  This time select
  75. new program item.   When the next box appears requesting
  76. program information, select the browse push button.  Then
  77. select spell.exe from the directory you created in step 1.
  78.  
  79. 6.  This completes installation, I hope you enjoy the
  80. spelling quizzer.

  92. To run the spelling quizzer, you need at least a computer
  93. with an 80286 processor installed and Windows 3.1 installed.
  94. This program is not compatible with previous versions of
  95. Windows.  It has been tested on a machine with 2Mb of RAM.
  96. It is currently unknown if it will work with less the 2Mb.
  97. Also, You should have the Times New Roman font installed,
  98. this font came with MS-Windows.

  101. quizzer after reading this document, please consult the on-
  102. line help section .

  109. When the program starts up, it will ask you for your name.
  110. Please enter your name, and it will set the window caption
  111. to include your name.  Your name is also used when recording
  112. quiz scores.  If no name is entered, then your quiz score
  113. will be saved under the name ANONYMOUS.
  114.  
  115. After entering your name, you will see a menu bar with 6
  116. choices: List, Word, Quiz, Student, Donations and Help.
  117.  
  118. LIST MENU:
  119.  
  120. This pull down menu has several choices:  New, Open,
  121. Display, Save, Save As, Print, and Exit.
  122.  
  123. New:
  124.  
  125. The New Option displays a dialog box, requesting the student
  126. to enter a spelling word, sample sentence and definition.
  127. An important item to note is that when a sample sentence is
  128. entered it will be scanned for the spelling word.  If the
  129. word is found, then it will be replaced with underline
  130. characters.  The Next word button reads in the current
  131. spelling word, and allows the student to enter the next
  132. word.  The last word button allows the student to view the
  133. last word entered.  The finished button signals the student
  134. is done with this list, and closes the box.

  136. Open:
  137.  
  138. Allows the student to open an existing list that is stored
  139. on disk.  Immediately after opening the list, it will be
  140. displayed in a box with a View/Edit button, practice word
  141. button, and delete button.  The View/Edit button opens a box
  142. very similar to the new choice, with the exception it has a
  143. change button added.  The change button allows you to edit
  144. words that have already been loaded into the list.  The
  145. change button on that box must be pushed for the changes to
  146. take affect. The practice word button allows you to view a
  147. word, definition, and sample sentence.  When you are ready
  148. to try and spell the word on your own, push the test word
  149. button, and it will let you type the word in and check your
  150. spelling.  The delete button on the box in simply allows you
  151. to delete the selected word from your list.

  153. NOTE:  Double clicking a word in this box will automatically
  154. select that word for study, and run the study dialog box.

  156. Display:

  158. The display menu choice opens the same box as mentioned
  159. above,  and allows you to view/edit words, practice a
  160. selected word, or delete a selected word.

  165. Save:
  166.  
  167. The Save option allows you to save your spelling list to a
  168. disk file.  You should be sure and save your list after
  169. creating it, or changing it.
  170.  
  171. Save As:

  173. This option allow you to enter the file name you want your
  174. list saved as, the program defaults to a .LST extension.
  175.  
  176. Print:
  177.  
  178. Lets you send your list to a printer.  This option has a
  179. fairly nice format to the print, but it only allows 5 words
  180. per page.

  182. Exit:
  183.  
  184. Select this choice to quit the spelling quizzer.

  186. WORD MENU:
  187.  
  188. This menu has three choices, Add, Delete and Study.
  189.  
  190. Add:
  191.  
  192. This choice lets you add words to your list, it opens the
  193. same box as the NEW menu choice, only it starts you at the
  194. next available word.

  196. Edit:
  197.  
  198. This choice lets you edit words, sample sentences and
  199. definitions in your list. It opens a box very similar to the
  200. display option, but it only has 2 buttons on it: View/Edit
  201. and Cancel.  Double clicckin a word will automatically run
  202. the appropriate Edit dialog box.

  204. Delete:
  205.  
  206. This choice lets you erase words from your list. It opens a
  207. box very similar to the display option, but it only has 2
  208. buttons on it: Delete and Cancel.

  210. Study:
  211.  
  212. This menu choice opens up the same box as the study push
  213. button, only it starts at the beginning of the list and lets
  214. you progress through, studying the words as much as you
  215. want.

  219. QUIZ:
  220.  
  221. The first thing this option does is bring up the quiz
  222. configuration box. This box is divided into 2 groups, Order,
  223. and include.  In the order section, you can choose either
  224. random order(all mixed up) or sequential order(in order).
  225. In the include section you can include either sentences or
  226. definitions, or both.  During the quiz, if all you want to
  227. see is the word definition, just check that box, and the
  228. same for sentences.  Or, check both to include both
  229. sentences and definitions.  As soon as you push the OK
  230. button on this, the quiz will start. If you choose, a
  231. definition will be displayed in the top portion of this box,
  232. and a sample sentence will appear in the bottom portion of
  233. the box.  It is up to you to type in your spelling word in
  234. the middle portion of the box.  The check word button will
  235. let you know if you spelled the word right, and then show
  236. the next definition and/or sentence. The finished button
  237. will end the quiz.  After completing the quiz either by
  238. pressing the finished button or going through all the words
  239. in your list, your score will be displayed and you will be
  240. asked if you want to save that score.

  242. STUDENT MENU:

  244. This menu has 2 choices: New Student or Scores
  245.  
  246. New Student:
  247.  
  248. This choice displays the box pictured in figure 1.  Use it
  249. if somebody else is going to use the spelling quizzer.

  251. Scores:
  252.  
  253. This choice actually has two choices, Make a new Score List,
  254. or Display scores.
  255.  
  256. Make New Score List:
  257.  
  258. This choice just re-starts the list of spelling quizzer
  259. scores.
  260.  
  261. Display Scores:
  262.  
  263. This choice lets you see all scores that are recorded.
